Flinders Island, Bass Strait - Wild, Natural, Friendly

......  people search the world to find a place like Flinders Island

Flinders Island is only a short distance from Melbourne and Launceston. Flying from Essendon, it is just over an hour away, and from Launceston, a 40 minute flight will see you on the island. Click here for the details on rates, bookings and how to get here.

Palana Retreat is Flinders Island’s northernmost luxury accommodation.

Your modern two storey, two bedroom, two bathroom accommodation overlooks Blyth Bay, Pratts River, Inner Sister and Outer Sister Island.

The house is totally timber lined and has timber flooring. Cathedral ceilings dominate the downstairs living area. Enjoy a spa, an open fire and luxury amenities. Just relax, be spoilt and take in the beauty of the north of bold, beautiful Flinders Island.

A two minute walk finds you on Palana Beach. North East River and Killiecrankie are recommended visitor spots while you are at this end of the island and are only a short drive away.

If you're after a latte a short stroll away, then this is not for you. But if you're after a place where the nearest shop is 50 kms away and the loudest noises are the birds on the river and the crash of the waves on the beach, and the milky way looks the way it did when you were a kid when the skies were crystal clear, then you have found the perfect place to enjoy nature the way it was meant to be. And there is so much more to Flinders Island. Take a look at the island's website www.visitflindersisland.com.au.

We can even organise an exclusive onsite massage for the ladies at the retreat from the island's resident Japanese therapist, Chi. This consists of Japanese Foot Bath, Reiki, Head & Shoulder Massage and Reflexology. What better way to relax.

We now also have a Liquor Licence and FREE Internet. The new VAST satellite TV service is also available.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

On your arrival a freshly cooked (own recipe) crusty loaf of bread will await you, along with a bottle of wine to help you unwind.

And the beach doesn't need explanation, other than the fact that you're likely to be the only people on it. As your host is the only permanent resident of Palana Village, your tranquility is assured.

We have a saying on the island, "If you find footprints in the sand, then find another beach!" After all we have 120 of them around the islands!

If you can spare an hour, walk the length of the beach and back. If you can't just sit and admire it.

The two bedrooms comprise the master bedroom upstairs with queen sized bed and its own private balcony and café setting. It also has its own bathroom.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Downstairs the second bedroom can accommodate two single beds or a king sized bed. A second bathroom complete with spa is adjacent where you can unwind and look out over the bay. On a full moon it is just magical. Even without the full moon, it's bliss.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Facilities include airconditioning,  open fire, spa, dishwasher, microwave, fridge/freezer, gas oven and hotplates with rangehood, BBQ, Free Satellite Internet, Austar TV and the new VAST TV service along with DVD/Video player and entertainment system. A washing machine and dryer are also provided for your convenience. There is also a hair dryer provided. A cot, high chair and child car seat are also available for your use. We also have a liquor licence.

A 4WD Daihatsu Feroza is available for your use while staying at Palana Retreat (minimal per km charge applies).

Single and double kayaks are also available for a leisurely paddle on Pratts River.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

While you're out there paddling, or even if you're not, you'll probably see a couple of the locals.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

And if you are a little bit lucky, you might even get to enjoy some of the local fare. The little one on the right weighed in at 4.25kg.
